Assistant Chief Michael Behan joined the Sylvania Fire-EMS Department on May 17, 2000. He is a longtime resident of Sylvania Township with a deep commitment to serving the community he proudly calls home.

Mike was promoted to Lieutenant on January 28, 2018, and later to Captain on May 6, 2024. Throughout his career, he has remained committed to professional development and advancing the fire service. In 2021, he completed the Ohio Fire Executive Program through the Ohio Fire Chiefs’ Association.

He holds numerous professional certifications, including Ohio Certified EMT-Paramedic, Ohio Fire and EMS Services Instructor, Ohio Fire Inspector, Fire Department Safety Officer, and Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) Instructor, among others.

On September 1, 2026, Mike was appointed Assistant Chief by the Sylvania Township Board of Trustees. He is honored to work alongside Chief Christopher Nye and Chief Jeffrey Bennett to provide leadership for the department while continuing to support the firefighters, paramedics, and residents of Sylvania Township.
